NFL Draft 2021: Jacksonville Jaguars pick Trevor Lawrence, compares to Andrew Luck

We all knew Trevor Lawrence was going to be the number one pick. In fact, we knew for years now. The former Clemson quarterback had that position on lock from the moment he stepped foot on campus in 2018.

In his three years there, Lawrence led Clemson to three College Football Playoff appearances, one National Championship and wiped the floor with just about all of the competition.

At the next level, Lawrence is expected to be even better. His most comparable legendary comparison is Andrew Luck. Much like Lawrence, Luck dominated from the very beginning, carving up Pac-12 defenses from 2009-2011. In their sophomore seasons, the numbers were remarkably similar. Luck threw for 3,338 yards, 33 touchdowns and eight picks while Lawrence was good for 3,665, 36 touchdowns and eight interceptions. They both possess very good arm strength but neither would be considered gunslingers. Also, both QBs have well above average athleticism. They won’t turn on the jets and leave defenders in the dust but they’re more than capable of grabbing a chunk of yards.

While fans of the Jacksonville Jaguars could easily have the best quarterback this franchise has ever had, unfortunately for them, Luck and Lawrence share another similarity. After being on the receiving end of numerous big hits and constant injuries, Luck decided to walk away. Of the many reasons for his decision, losing love for the game was one of them. As previously expressed by Lawrence himself, he isn’t coming into the league with a chip on his shoulder.

Lawrence claims that he’s secure within himself and doesn’t want to be something he isn’t. But while there isn’t necessarily anything wrong with what he said, fans were expecting a more maniacal approach to the game. It doesn’t mean Lawrence won’t give it his all but if the lack of wins and hits pile up, fans have to be wondering if he’ll abruptly walk away from the game as well.
