2021 NFL Draft: One legend that each first round draft pick reminds us of
NFL Draft 2021: New York Giants pick Kadarius Toney, compares to Charlie Joiner
Fans of the New York Giants didn’t hold back the moment wide receiver Kadarius Toney was selected with the 20th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Some of the bigger names at the position were already long gone by the time the New York based franchise got their turn on the clock.
Still, while fans are furious at the front office for picking up the unheralded receiver, they should actually be feeling thankful.
Throughout the 70s and 80s, a player by the name of Charlie Joiner was an imposing threat, despite his five foot eleven inch frame. He used his uncanny speed to get by defenders and caught everything even remotely in his direction. Their new addition is essentially a splitting image of him.
With a 40 time clocked at 4.39, Toney has plenty of speed to cause the same sort of damage that Joiner once did. While playing at Florida, Toney also had a tendency to make tough catches in traffic. Neither man was a very physical player but neither allowed themselves to get bullied either. What New York just got is a speedy receiver with great hands. With the offensive options for New York few and far between, Toney could see a bunch of targets.
If so, much like Joiner, expect Toney to catch them all.
