2021 NFL Draft: One legend that each first round draft pick reminds us of
NFL Draft 2021: Cleveland Browns pick Christian Darrisaw, compares to Randall McDaniel
There is truly no other way to put it. Offensive tackle Randall McDaniel played the game of football in a very violent way. It wasn’t simply about protecting his quarterback, it was more so about sending a message to the rest of the competition.
Everything worked out for him as he was selected to 12 Pro Bowls and inducted into the Hall of Fame. With the blueprint clearly laid out in front of him, fellow offensive linemen Christian Darrisaw followed it to the best of his abilities and by all accounts, he’s done a great job in doing so.
While playing at Virginia Tech, Darrisaw played with the same sort of vicious behavior as his Hall of Fame counterpart. His overall pff grade of 95.6 was the best in his draft class at his position. The Hall of Fame pressure that is currently being placed on his shoulders by us seemingly won’t affect him. This past season, even with most of the college football world gunning for him, Darrisaw allowed only six quarterback pressures and not a single sack.
Another similarity the two share is their ability to move in space and block down the field. It’s almost uncanny how either man would fly down the football field despite standing over six feet tall and weighing well above 300 pounds. In short, quarterback Kirk Cousins in good hands with the second coming of Randall McDaniel now protecting him from the opposition.
