NFL Draft 2021: Jacksonville Jaguars Lions pick Travis Etienne, compares to LeSean McCoy

Travis Etienne was one of the most explosive running backs the college football world has ever seen. It wasn’t just that he had the ability to leave defenders in the dust but during his time in Clemson, he was extremely slippery.

Etienne oftentimes found himself face to face with defenders with nowhere to go. While a sure-fire tackle seemed inevitable, the speedy back was a pure genius with the ball, usually pulling out all of his tricks to work his way around defenders. His most comparable legendary comparison is running back LeSean McCoy.

Known to the NFL world as “Shady” McCoy was a wizard with the ball. Gang tackling was once viewed as the only way to take him down. If it was a game of one on one between the defender and McCoy, it was all but over. The same could be said for Etienne. He registered back-to-back seasons of over a thousand yards and dominated the competition.

Although neither guy is known for their pass catching ability, they are equally adequate in that department. Neither man is ever expected to catch a deep ball going down the field but their elusiveness gives them just enough time to pick up the first down.

At this point, McCoy is a shell of his former self but with Etienne officially entering the league, his legacy is set to live on through him.
