2021 NFL Draft: One legend that each first round draft pick reminds us of
NFL Draft 2021: Baltimore Ravens pick Rashod Bateman, compares to Terrell Owens
The speedy receivers are always a necessity. So are the guys who are willing to put their bodies on the line by going across the field. While all play an intricate part in the game, there’s something special about a player who does it all.
No matter how mercurial Terrell Owens seemed both off and on the field, there was no denying just how great he was. His body was chiseled, he was physical at the line of scrimmage and the big hits that would leave smaller receivers concussed going across the middle did absolutely nothing to Owens.
Shaped in that exact same mold is Baltimore Ravens new wide receiver, Rashod Bateman. In 2019, his numbers seemed unreal. He caught 60 balls for 1,219 yards, 11 touchdowns and averaged a ridiculous 20.3 yards per catch. At the University of Minnesota, Bateman simply played bully ball against opposing cornerbacks. With his size and willingness to go get the ball, his QB would oftentimes simply throw the ball up and watch him come down with it. Much like Owens, it’s nearly impossible to stop Bateman without some help on the backend. He may have gotten picked up at the backend of the draft, but the Ravens got themselves a true number one option.
