NFL Draft 2021: New Orleans Saints pick Payton Turner, compares to Aaron Donald

The New Orleans Saints knew that they needed more on the defensive side of the ball. With quarterback Drew Brees officially riding off into the sunset, the team will now rely heavily on either the arm of Jameis Winston or the legs of Taysom Hill. Neither option sounds appealing.

So, to help mitigate the issues on the offensive end, they brought in the big bruising defensive end, Payton Turner, out of Houston. It’s easy to see why. If his season at Houston this past year wasn’t cut short, he appeared on his way to one of the most dominant seasons in college football history and no, that isn’t hyperbole. In only five games this year, Turner already racked up 25 tackles, 10.5 for loss and five sacks.

The only person that comes to mind that can come even close to that level of production in such a short amount of time is current all-world DE, Aaron Donald.

With seven Pro Bowl appearances, six All-Pro’s and a long list of other awards, Donald isn’t slowing down anytime soon. However, in just a few more years, Turner could replace him as the new dominant force on the defensive side of the ball.
