NFL Draft 2021: New York Jets pick Zach Wilson, compares to Russell Wilson

For quarterback Zach Wilson, his name has often been compared to Patrick Mahomes. Although it isn’t a bad comparison, we simply see one that fits a bit better.

Current Seattle Seahawks signal-caller Russell Wilson, more or less, fits the mold. The measurables aren’t exactly the same with Zach standing at six foot two inches and Russell standing a few inches below that at five foot eleven, but the manner in which they attack the game is similar. Neither guy can be considered a burner but their escapability has been on display in numerous instances.

For Russell, he’s a poised thrower from the pocket but as his 513 rushing yards last season indicated, he’s perfectly fine with making plays with his legs. Similarly, Zach has been known to do the same, however, he takes more opportunistic chances with the ball. The former BYU star may have rushed for only 254 yards in his final season but he crossed the goal line 10 times.

Ironically enough, both of these QBs piled up remarkably similar numbers during the final season of their respective schools. Zach racked up 3,692 passing yards, 33 touchdowns, three interceptions and a completion percentage of 73.5. Russell, on the other hand, registered 3,175 passing yards, also connected on 33 touchdowns, had only one more pick at four and completed 72.8 percent of his passes. Height aside, Zach and Russell not only share a last name but also their game.
