2021 NFL Draft: One legend that each first round draft pick reminds us of
NFL Draft 2021: Miami Dolphins pick Jaylen Waddle, compares to Antonio Brown
Due to an injury-riddled 2020 season, Jaylen Waddle had become somewhat forgotten. The Miami Dolphins, however, certainly didn’t, taking him with the sixth pick in the draft. So what kind of player is the franchise getting exactly?
Well, standing at five foot ten and weighing 182 pounds, Waddle is the exact same size as Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown. He also happens to play just like him too. Brown isn’t the fastest player in the world, nor is he the most physical. The same can be said for Waddle. But, what the two do have in common is precise route running.
Waddle can start and stop on a dime. Even the best defenders in the world have difficulty adjusting to Brown’s ability and timing. The NFL world will have the same issues with Waddle. Also, while Brown isn’t a burner by any stretch of the imagination, he routinely found a way to fly by receivers. For Waddle and his 4.37 speed, Brown checked in at 4.47 during his Combine over a decade ago, he’ll have the ability to fly by defenders if they get caught sleeping. While the Dolphins will hope that Waddle develops into Antonio Brown 2.0, they’ll simply be praying that he doesn’t develop his mercurial personality.
