For some reason, the Dallas Cowboys continue to ignore the safety position but just in case they realize the position matters, here’s three targets for Day 3 of the 2021 NFL Draft

Not long before the 2021 NFL Draft kicked off, Dallas Cowboys vice president of player personnel Stephen Jones went on some long rant about how the team does value the safety position despite the fact that they use no resources on it.

Then the draft started and they made five picks in the first three rounds with none at all being spent on safety — which has arguably been the biggest hole on their roster for more than half a decade.

So once again, they prove that they simply don’t understand that a safety is vital to stopping the opponents passing attack ‚—‚ and cannot figure out that their lack of safety talent is a huge part of them continually being torched by opposing passing games.

Even so, we will continue to beat our heads against a brick wall and point out safeties they should target, but probably won’t. With that all out of the way, here are three players who are still on the board entering day three that Dallas should look at.

3. Talanoa Hufanga, USC

Listed at 6-foot-1 and 215-pounds, Talanoa Hufanga might not be a great pass defender but he has developed quite a bit in that regard and even had four picks in 2020 for USC despite playing just six games. He will be asked to continue to develop this part of his game but he does come into the NFL already polished as a run defender.

Hufanga is considered a violent tackler and can be moved around some — much like recent free-agent addition Keanu Neal. He wouldn’t solve all their problems but he would offer some depth — and that is a huge need right now.
