NFL Draft: Biggest bust from each franchise’s history
Biggest NFL Draft bust from Denver Broncos history: Paxton Lynch, QB
Stats:
- 792 passing yards
- 4 touchdowns
- 4 interceptions
The Denver Broncos were in a perfect position. They enjoyed great quarterback play from Peyton Manning for four years. During that stretch, they dominated the regular season and made two Super Bowl appearances, winning one in 2015.
With Manning set to ride off into the sunset after the season, the Broncos invested in their future by taking a tall, strong young man with a ton of potential in Paxton Lynch out of Memphis University. It was all perfect, the Broncos needed someone to take the reigns for the next decade-plus and he was clearly the guy.
While at Memphis, Lynch threw a party on defenses. In his final year under center, he pushed the ball downfield for 3,776 yards to go along with 28 touchdowns and only four interceptions. He also proved he was a bit mobile as he rushed for 13 touchdowns the year prior. Luckily for the Broncos, he was still waiting there in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft and with the 26th overall pick, they took him.
Denver showed absolutely no patience with Lynch, pushing him out the door in only two years and four starts. Granted, his numbers were awful, but Denver was never fully committed to him in the first place.
