Biggest NFL Draft bust from Seattle Seahawks history: Dan McGwire, QB

Stats:

The 1980s and 90s were a completely different time football-wise. Seldom did quarterbacks put up gaudy numbers in college. Instead, defensive players shined on the collegiate stage along with running backs. The game plan, by and large, was simple. Bleed out the clock, get a ton of stops and score when you can. A stark contrast to today’s game.

Still, even with the limited amount of possessions on the offensive end, quarterback Dan McGwire made teams pay. In his final year at San Diego State, McGwire threw 3,883 passing yards and 27 touchdowns with only seven interceptions. The Seattle Seahawks were impressed with both his counting numbers and overall play and decided to grab him with the 16th overall pick in 1991.

Seattle intended to start him out slow. He settled into a backup role in his rookie year but fell on the depth chart to third-string in 1992. He wouldn’t see much of the field the following year either but was finally given a chance to play in year four. In seven games, McGwire threw for 578 yards with a single touchdown and two interceptions. Needless to say, he was relegated back to the bench.

Seattle shipped him off to Miami in 1995 and after playing in only a single game while there, he was exiled from the league, making him an unbelievable bust.
