Biggest NFL Draft bust from Baltimore Ravens history: Kyle Boller, QB

Stats:

  • 8,931 passing yards
  • 48 touchdowns
  • 54 interceptions

Like most of the NFL world, the Ravens sat back in awe as they watched Kyle Boller carve up defenses at California. After sub-par play his first three seasons, Boller saved his best for last. In his senior campaign, Boller threw for 2,816 yards with 28 touchdowns and only ten interceptions.

The Baltimore Ravens saw a future star in Boller and grabbed him with the 19th overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. He got off to a rocky start, throwing 1,260 yards and an underwhelming seven touchdowns to nine interceptions before a thigh injury forced him to miss the rest of the season.

Despite the putrid numbers, the Ravens continued to have faith in him. To reward them for their belief, Boller repaid them with horrific play.

Throughout the majority of his career, Boller simply couldn’t stay healthy. Only once did he finish an entire season without going down. With Boller spending more time on the IR as opposed to the actual football field, the Ravens cut their losses in 2007 after another injury-riddled season.

While Baltimore would draft their Super Bowl winning QB in Joe Flacco one year later, they’ll never forget how Boller was expected to lead them to prosperity but never did.
