Packers schedule: Could Aaron Rodgers drama affect primetime slate?
The Packers schedule, along with the rest of the league’s, will be released on May 12 but will Aaron Rodgers’ drama affect Green Bay’s slate?
Along with the 31 other NFL teams, the Green Bay Packers will find out their schedule for the 2021 season on Wednesday, May 12. Yet, fans and the organization have been much less concerned with how their first-ever 17-game slate will shake out and more with what will happen with reigning NFL MVP, quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
As we all know by now, Rodgers has grown unhappy with the organization and has expressed to numerous parties that he doesn’t plan to return for this year. That has sparked numerous trade rumors and even raised the notion of a shocking retirement. For their part, Green Bay has reportedly offered the quarterback a monster new contract to try and appease him and give him a solidified future.
While that may take precedence in the mind of Packers fans over what the 2021 schedule looks like, the two ideas may actually be intertwined. Simply put, Rodgers’ situation could have a noticeable effect on what the Green Bay schedule looks like.
Aaron Rodgers could mean the Packers schedule includes fewer primetime games.
When you think about the Packers schedule, you obviously expect them to be one of the most featured teams in the NFL. That’s even more so the case when you consider that Green Bay has high-profile matchups with the Chiefs, 49ers, Ravens, Steelers, Browns, Rams, Seahawks and, of course, the rest of the NFC North.
However, there is a distinct possibility that, with Rodgers threatening to not suit up for the Pack in the 2021 season, that the schedule-makers don’t quite highlight the franchise in the ways they have in the past. Simply put, a Jordan Love-Patrick Mahomes matchup doesn’t have quite the same allure as Rodgers-Mahomes.
We shall see if that’s the way things ultimately play out when the Packers schedule for 2021 is released on Wednesday night. But don’t be surprised if you don’t see Green Bay in quite as many primetime or featured games as they otherwise would be playing in as they continue to contend with the Aaron Rodgers drama.
