NFL: Creating the all-time roster with football’s legends: WR, Terrell Owens

Career stats:

  • 15,934 receiving yards
  • 1,078 receptions
  • 153 touchdowns

Accolades:

  • 6 time Pro Bowler
  • 5 time First Team All-Pro

Pay no attention to wide receiver Terrell Owens being forced to wait three years to hear his name inducted to the Hall of Fame. Owens was one of the greatest receivers in NFL history, he simply caught a bad rep. But, that won’t affect him here.

Owens was a bit abnormal for the position. For as great as players such as Randy Moss, Jerry Rice and Larry Fitzgerald were, they weren’t known as physical receivers. By no means were they soft but in the case of Owens, he loved hitting first.

To illustrate how tough he was, Owens put on a show during Super Bowl XXXIX. After breaking his during the final stretch of the season, Owens, still considerably hobbled, returned for the biggest game of the year. Not only did he play, he was easily the best player, racking up nine receptions for 122 yards in a losing effort.

Outside of Rice, Owens’ numbers stack up favorably against anyone. His 15,934 receiving yards and 153 receiving touchdowns rank in the top three all-time. On a team with two great receivers on the outside, we’re going to need another all-timer who’s willing to get his hands dirty and go across the middle. Owens may have been viewed as divisive and horrible for team chemistry but with so many great players surrounding him, Owens would toe the line.
