Punters Matter Too: Ranking the NFL’s 5 best at the position
By Lucas Schuh
5. JK Scott, Green Bay Packers
Outside of looking like a 6-6 freshman in high school, JK is a quality punter. While at Alabama in college, Scott was a two-time first team All-SEC nominee and a one-time second team All-SEC selection as he established himself as one of the country’s elite punters. Scott was good enough in college to get selected by the Packers in the fifth round of the 2018 draft.
In Scott’s first year in the NFL, things did not go so well. He showed flashes of greatness early on, especially against Minnesota but, outside of that, he struggled. Like many punters, Scott struggled to find consistency and, with that, many Packers fans turned on him quickly.
Green Bay fans have blamed Scott for the team’s bad special teams play from the past few seasons but, as the years have gone on, the blame can’t be put on Scott. The following season, Scott once took a major step up. In 2019, we saw more flashes of great play from Scott as he usually has great hang time but he started getting his distance control down a little more.
Last season was the former Crimson Tide standout’s best yetas he didn’t have a bad game all season ands started to get his distance control locked in more regularly with his usage of the nose drop. With Scott checking in at just 25 years old and steadily improving every season, he could see himself climb up these rankings in the coming years.
