Punters Matter Too: Ranking the NFL’s 5 best at the position
By Lucas Schuh
3. Michael Dickson, Seattle Seahawks
Michael Dickson is only the second player on this list who is currently under 30 years old but that shows how good of a talent he is. Dickson was a fifth-round pick in the 2018 draft by the Seattle Seahawks. During his senior year at Texas, he proved that he was easily the best punter in the country as he was an All-American, won Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Year, won the Ray Guy Award, and was even the MVP of the Texas Bowl as a punter.
Since he joined Seattle, Dickson has quickly settled in and has become a dominant punter in the NFL. Like Tress Way before him, Dickson doesn’t have the ideal hang time numbers that you want but he has mastered distance control, thanks in part to his training in Australia
Before Dickson arrived in the USA with the Longhorns, he played Australian Football. He was so good that he was placed in the Sydney Swans talent academy when he was a teen. After not doing a lot with the AFL, he joined ProKick Australia where he trained in punting.
As a pro, Dickson is one of the best punters in the league. We saw him somewhat do it all last yea. When the Seahawks played against the Rams in the Wild Card Round, he had his distance control locked in and was even able to get off some long punts while backed up in his end zone. If Dickson can get his leg strength figured out, he will consistently be a top-five punter.
