Strengths in Malik Willis’ game

When a quarterback is coming off of a season where he nearly rushed for 1,000 yards, it seems appropriate to begin there with his strengths. While Malik Willis does not have the elusiveness in the open field that Lamar Jackson had coming out of Louisville (who does though?), the Liberty quarterback has plenty of juice in his legs. He has proven to be a strong runner with the football.

His arm is not lacking either, as Willis shows the ability to throw deep down the field with relative ease, but also to rifle the football into some tight windows as well. On top of that, Willis has the ability to manipulate passing lanes by throwing from a multitude of arm angles as well.

Willis’ throwing motion is also smooth, keeping his elbow above the 90-degree benchmark as he works through his mechanics well. This leads to tremendous arm speed for Willis.

NFL teams are now gearing their search towards quarterbacks with gifted physical tools, and Willis certainly has those in his arsenal. Being safe with the football is the name of the game for Willis as well, throwing just six interceptions all of last year. This type of ball protection will keep a passer in the NFL for a good while.

There are, however, areas for improvement in the game of Willis as he enters his last season with the Flames.
