New York Giants: Nate Solder, Offensive Tackle
It’s no secret that the New York Giants many attempts to fix their offensive line haven’t gone according to plan. The Giants added Nate Solder as a high-priced free agent back in 2018 but he never really took the job and ran with it.
In fact, his issues at left tackle led the Giants to draft Andrew Thomas in 2020. New York also added Will Hernandez in 2018, a guard from UTEP who was considered one of the more pro-ready prospects in the class.
Hernandez started out looking impressive but then by 2020, he was splitting time with Shane Lemieux at left guard. Another player who didn’t work out for them was Kevin Zeitler who was added in a trade with the Cleveland Browns.
Zeitler was released ahead of this season and joined the Baltimore Ravens. That move is why Hernandez seems safe despite Lemiuex passing him since he’s in line to start at right guard. The player who doesn’t seem safe, however, is Solder.
After opting out of the 2020 season, Solder might not return to the Giants unless they feel he can be a better right tackle than Matt Peart. Otherwise, they’re not paying him premium money to be a swing tackle.
