Buffalo Bills: Jerry Hughes, EDGE
After starting his career with the Indianapolis Colts back in 2010, Jerry Hughes joined the Buffalo Bills in 2013 and has spent the past eight seasons in Western New York. He’s been an absolute stud in that time as well, playing in 127 games with 111 starts.
His stats include 332 tackles and 51 sacks for the Bills — and was still a starter for them in 2020 at the age of 32. However, the days of Hughes starting could be coming to an end.
Buffalo already added A.J. Epenesa last year in the second round and there are hopes that he could one day take over where Mario Addison is playing. Then this season, they added two more impressive young defensive ends in the draft.
First was Gregory Rousseau, who was the 30th overall selection — and there was a point where it seemed he was going to be taken much higher than that. As if that wasn’t enough, they then took Carlos Basham in the very next round as the 61st overall pick.
That means Buffalo now has three players taken in the first two rounds of the past draft as well as Addison. That’s a lot of young and affordable edge rush help that could make the 33-year old Hughes and his $9.45 million salary expendable.
