2. Cincinnati Bengals: Joe Burrow reunites with Ja’Marr Chase

The Cincinnati Bengals started a trend we’d see repeated by several teams, reuniting college teammates. Bengals Director of Player Personnel, Duke Tobin, had choices with the No. 5 overall pick. With Penei Sewell on the board, Tobin could not pass up an opportunity to reunite Joe Burrow with his college teammate, wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.

Chase and Burrow were a deadly combination at LSU. The last time Chase played football, he dominated opposing defenses catching Burrow’s passes. In 2019, the former Tiger finished with 1,780 yards, averaged 21 yards per catch, and hauled in 20 touchdowns. Of course, that success doesn’t mean it will translate to the NFL — but their chemistry will.

Aside from that, the 6-0, 201-pound wideout has elite traits. At his Pro Day, he jumped 40 inches in the vertical after running a 4.38-second 40-yard dash. He’s a polished route runner who excels off the line and displays a second gear. Once he catches the ball expect tenacity as he looks to run after the catch.

With Auden Tate, Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd, the Bengals have a wide receiver room that rivals any in the league. Chase makes them that much better. It’s not often a wideout is taken in the top five, so expectations are high. Chase has the talent and surrounding pieces to work in his favor but will he be the No. 1 target?
