NFL: 30 of the biggest what-ifs in NFL history: 21. Patrick Mahomes wins back to back

Arguably, no one in the history of the NFL has received as much praise as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes in such a short amount of time. From the moment he stepped onto the field as a full-time starter in 2018, Mahomes lit the NFL world on fire. On the year, Mahomes would go on to throw for over 5,000 yards, 50 touchdowns and easily pocket the MVP award.

One year later, Mahomes would lead his ball club to the Super Bowl, winning in comeback fashion against the San Francisco 49ers. All it took was one ring for most NFL pundits to declare Mahomes as the greatest quarterback ever. When discussing the greatest, fellow quarterback Tom Brady, usually gets the nod. Yet, due to Mahomes being in his mid-20s and his otherworldly arm talent, he was simply viewed as better than everyone.

Those thoughts grew even louder as Mahomes once again dragged his squad to the Super Bowl the following season. The storyline was a simple one. With Mahomes facing off against Brady and his Tampa Bay Buccaneers, one more Super Bowl ring would officially place him as the best who ever did it. Brady, of course, would hear none of it as he beat the Chiefs down to win his seventh Super Bowl ring.

Still, what if Mahomes would have won it again? So called experts have already declared him a Hall of Famer in less than three full years under center. Back to back rings would have sent Mahomes to another stratosphere. While he may still get there, Brady and company brought everyone back to their senses.
