NFL: 30 of the biggest what-ifs in NFL history: 6. The Atlanta Falcons don’t trade Brett Favre

In the back of every fan’s mind that resides in Atlanta, they’ll always wonder what could’ve been? When the name Brett Favre is brought up, the first thing that comes to mind is his career Hall of Fame career on the Green Bay Packers. For roughly 15 years, Favre sliced and diced up defenses, all while taking home multiple MVPs and making numerous Super Bowl appearances.

Yet, while he’s synonymous with the Packers, he could have been tied at the hip with the Atlanta Falcons. During the 1991 NFL Draft, Favre was actually selected by them in the second round. For some odd reason, then head coach Jerry Glanville wasn’t a fan of Favre. Reportedly, the former headman stated that Favre would only see the field if there was a “plane crash.” The following year, the Packers traded a first-rounder for Favre and the rest is history.

As for the Falcons, they were stuck with Chris Miller and a long list of inept quarterbacks for years. There’s no question that Falcons fans are wishing that plane crash took place after all.
