2021 NFL Quarterback Power Rankings: How far ahead is Patrick Mahomes?
By Randy Gurzi
17. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals
In just 10 games last season, Joe Burrow proved that he was the future of the Cincinnati Bengals. While they struggled with a record of just 2-7-1, he was not the reason for their issues. In fact, he was at times the only reason they were even still alive in most games.
Burrow completed 65.3 percent of his passes for 2,688 yards with 13 touchdowns and five picks. He added another three touchdowns on the ground and 142 yards as he often had to take off running due to the issues the Bengals had on their offensive line.
Those struggles also led to him suffering a torn ACL against the Washington Football Team which prematurely ended his rookie campaign. Burrow is on the mend now and the future looks bright, even if Cincinnati didn’t greatly improve their offensive line.
They did add Riley Reiff and Jackson Carman but they elected not to take Penei Sewell, instead bringing in Ja’Marr Chase — who was a teammate of Burrow’s at LSU during their electric 2019 season. Adding Chase to a roster that already has Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd should give Burrow more than enough weapons to take his next step as a pro quarterback.
As long as he stays healthy, he will only climb up this list and it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see him as a top-10 quarterback before long.
