2021 NFL Quarterback Power Rankings: How far ahead is Patrick Mahomes?
By Randy Gurzi
7. Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys
Before suffering a broken ankle last season, Dak Prescott was on an absolute tear. In five games, he had 1,856 yards with nine touchdown passes. That was a pace of 5,939 yards which wasn’t likely to be sustained throughout an entire season but it still highlights how well he was moving the ball.
There have been some to discount the numbers, saying that Prescott was having to throw the ball as much as he was since his team had such a terrible defense, which makes no sense. Sure, he had to air the ball out but it’s not as if he was throwing it against his own defense. Dak was putting up those numbers to keep his team in the games because he had to, but he was still making the throws.
Now heading into 2021, he’s fully healed and has a brand new extension from the Dallas Cowboys. He also has the same receiving corps from last season with Amari Cooper, Michael Gallup, and CeeDee Lamb ready to roll.
For some reason, Prescott is often maligned and people want to give credit to those around him for the success he has had. But the truth is, Dallas was a complete mess without him in 2020 and that should remind us all that he deserves as much credit as anyone for the 42-27 record he has in five seasons as the starter.
