5. Josh Allen Buffalo Bills

Heading into the 2018 NFL Draft, the talk surrounding who would be the No. 1 overall pick centered around Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield. Occasionally, Josh Rosen would get thrown into the mix but one name that was often laughed off was Josh Allen.

The Wyoming product was an intriguing prospect with a big arm but there were plenty of doubters as well since he had such a low completion percentage. In the end, Allen went to the Buffalo Bills at No. 7 overall putting him behind Mayfield and Darnold but ahead of Rosen who went 10th overall.

Now three years later, Allen has proven to be the best of the bunch. He’s led the Bills to back-to-back double-digit winning seasons including a 13-3 mark in 2020 that ended with a trip to the AFC Championship Game. He’s also made incredible strides as a passer.

In 2020, he increased his completion percentage from 58.8 the season prior to 69.2 while going from 3,089 yards and 20 touchdowns to 4,544 with 37 touchdown passes.

Allen is also dangerous with his legs, running for 1,562 yards and 25 touchdowns in three seasons — never going for fewer than eight in a season including his rookie campaign which saw him start just 11 games.

His play last season led to him finishing third in the league in MVP voting which should end the criticism he gets — but it probably won’t because people hate being wrong.
