2021 NFL Quarterback Power Rankings: How far ahead is Patrick Mahomes?
By Randy Gurzi
2. Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
If there was ever any doubt about Tom Brady being the greatest quarterback of all time (there shouldn’t have been) he put that to rest in 2020. When Brady moved on from the New England Patriots, it started a huge shift of power in both leagues.
Suddenly, the AFC East was competitive again, and for the first tune since 2008 someone other than the Patriots won that division. Of course, that was also the year Brady was out with a torn ACL and he had led them to that division title in each of the previous five seasons before then.
As for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they also saw a huge change. This franchise hadn’t been to the playoffs since 2007 and had just finished a third season in a row with a losing record. Then, Brady led them to an 11-win campaign that ended their playoff drought but he wasn’t done there.
Brady also won three road games in the playoffs to get the Bucs to the Super Bowl, which just so happened to be taking place at Raymond James Stadium — the home of the Buccaneers. In their own stadium, Tampa Bay won it all and became the first team to do so on their own turf.
Now entering his 22nd season in the NFL, Brady looks nothing like a soon-to-be 44-year old quarterback should. He still had 4,633 yards passing last season with 40 touchdowns and enters this season behind only one quarterback in these power rankings.
