Early NFL Over/Under win total predictions for the 2021 season
Early NFL Over/Under Win Total Predictions: NFC North
Chicago Bears, 7.5 wins: Over
The big question for the Chicago Bears is when they will hand the keys over to Justin Fields. For me, he should be the Week 1 starter over Andy Dalton. But whether or not that’s the case, I expect the move to be made earlier in the season rather than later.
Chicago has made stark improvements on offense this offseason, even if Khalil Mack and the defense might take a slight step back. Still, putting their Over/Under line at a spot where they could still finish 8-9 and hit the over makes this an easy prediction to make.
Detroit Lions, 5.0 wins: Under
Though I’m not going to say that the Detroit Lions will endure a winless 2021 NFL season, they’ll end up much closer to that than finishing .500. Jared Goff without Sean McVay to guide him is going to be a disaster and, though I like D’Andre Swift as a long-term running back asset, he can’t make up for subpar quarterback play and a defense that has nary a hope of stopping defenses consistently.
All told, the Lions should be one of the favorites for the No. 1 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.
Green Bay Packers, 10.5 wins: Over
Since we don’t know what Aaron Rodgers has planned for the 2021 season at this point, it’s hard to fully peg what the Packers are going to produce without a definitive answer. The best I can do is go with my gut.
And my gut says that Green Bay and their quarterback will ultimately resolve this issue. That brings the reigning NFL MVP back with Davante Adams and a strong offense along with a defense that should also be improved. How does that team not repeat as NFC North champions?
Minnesota Vikings, 8.5 wins: Over
Kirk Cousins often gets mislabeled as someone a team can’t win with at quarterback. But if you surround him with the right pieces, wins will come. The Vikings have a ton of skill-position talent and drafted Christian Darrisaw to hopefully put the final touches on their offensive line. While the Vikings’ defense was uncharacteristically bad for a Mike Zimmer-coached team last year, they should be capable of improvement, which should allow them to wrap the year above .500 and, thus, hitting the over.
