Early NFL Over/Under win total predictions for the 2021 season
Early NFL Over/Under Win Total Predictions: AFC South
Houston Texans, 4.0 wins: Under
The general belief is that, amid his off-field controversy, Deshaun Watson won’t be playing for the Houston Texans (or perhaps any team) this season. Even if he did, though, it would be hard to have faith in this football team. There is a massive talent disparity between Houston and the rest of the league right now and, with Tyrod Taylor at quarterback, that gap only widens. 4.0 wins is a low bar to clear but the Texans don’t have the bodies to even make it that far in 2021.
Indianapolis Colts, 10.0 wins: Under
Frank Reich is hoping that he can make quarterback Carson Wentz, whom he coached as an offensive coordinator in Philadelphia, his latest reclamation project. It could work out but, after watching Wentz last year and recently overall, I’m dubious of that happening.
Indianapolis has a strong infrastructure on both sides of the ball but I’m a bit concerned that they aren’t able to fully get to the level of other teams in the AFC. They play with two bad teams in the AFC South, which should help. And I actually have them at 10-7. But my lack of faith in the quarterback makes me lean under for this prediction.
Jacksonville Jaguars, 6.5 wins: Under
Just looking at the pieces on the Jaguars roster, specifically with the addition of Trevor Lawrence at quarterback, there is a lot to like about the future in Duval County. It’s not hard to see a lot of this roster progressing and making noise down the road.
However, my concern is with Urban Meyer. From drafting Travis Etienne in the first round after James Robinson was a breakout stud in 2020 to then signing Tim Tebow off the baseball field to play tight end, his young tenure has been worrisome already — so much so that I think we could see a rocky year one for the former college coach.
Tennessee Titans, 9.5 wins: Over
Now with Julio Jones in tow, it’s not hard to believe in the Titans and what they have to offer, at least on offense. Ryan Tannehill can no longer be doubted, especially with Jones, A.J. Brown, and Derrick Henry working alongside him. The defense is somewhat of a concern after they tried to overhaul that side of the ball on the fly but it shouldn’t be a disaster either.
Frankly, we need to stop doubting the Titans, whether that’s general fans or the oddsmakers. This is a team that has consistently been in the playoff mix and 10-7 seems like a bare minimum for this season.
