Ranking the 5 NFL teams eligible to appear on Hard Knocks
By Zach Cohen
2. Arizona Cardinals
Kliff Kingsbury. Kyler Murray. DeAndre Hopkins. JJ Watt. Need I say more? As one of the NFL’s youngest head coaches, Kingsbury has become quite a popular figure on camera and, in instances like these, on social media.
Murray, a former first overall pick, enters his third year as Kingsbury’s hand-picked golden boy, and while he improved in his second season, there are still strides to be made. Hopkins’ first season in the desert was successful enough, though the veteran wide receiver is likely craving a return to the playoffs. And Watt’s release from Houston and his subsequent signing with Arizona was all the rave for a period of time.
He’s also, you know, been one of the best defenders of the last decade. Perhaps you know him from the Texans’ appearance on the show in 2015? Those four marquee figures should be enough entertainment alone.
However, a cloud of uncertainty looms in the distance. After a disappointing 8-8 season, this team will need to take that much-awaited leap in Kingsbury’s third season. In a sense, it still feels like there’s a lot left to be desired.
Can Murray make the jump into a superstar? Can Kingsbury produce his first season above .500 since 2015 (when he was with Texas Tech)? Can Watt reach double-digit sacks again alongside the often underrated Chandler Jones? Will Larry Fitzgerald return to the team? How will new arrivals James Conner and Rodney Hudson fit within the offense? Will another defensive back step up alongside star safety Budda Baker? The storylines are plentiful in Phoenix.
This could shape up to be a fun season.
