Atlanta Falcons: Not finding an heir to Matt Ryan

Atlanta Falcons will not agree with this at all but the team really should have tried to find a replacement for Matt Ryan. Yes, he still can put up solid numbers but he’s 36-years old and is coming off a third-straight season with a losing record.

In addition to his age, Ryan will also enter the 2021 season without Julio Jones who was just traded to the Tennessee Titans. They do still have Calvin Ridley and Gage Russell but without Jones, that’s not nearly as scary of a unit.

Atlanta could see some of that slack picked up by Kyle Pitts, the Florida tight end who was taken fourth overall, but the last thing they need is to have Pitts developing while Ridley is in his prime only to see things fall apart due to their quarterback declining due to his age.

Point to the numbers all you want, but since Kyle Shanahan left to coach the San Francisco 49ers, Matt Ryan has looked a lot like the version we saw before Shanahan came in. And now, that version of Ryan is also quickly approaching 40 and it would have made sense to start planning for life after Matty Ice.
