Philadelphia Eagles: Not taking Justin Fields

At this point, I sound like a broken record. But I will not make apologies for that.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is an elite talent and for whatever reason, his name started to get sullied as the 2021 NFL Draft approached. People attacked everything about him including his diet — because apparently being vegan isn’t great for quarterbacks.

It’s crazy because he did nothing but succeed once he left Georgia for Ohio State (and even handled some ugliness at UGA with the utmost class). Then as he prepared for the draft, he also blew everyone away with his incredible 4.4 second time in the 40-yard dash.

Even so, he went after Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, and Trey Lance with only Lawrence being the one who made sense to go before him. It worked out great for the Chicago Bears who took him at No. 11 overall but the Philadelphia Eagles should have never let this happen.

When they moved up from No. 12 to No. 10 in a trade with the Dallas Cowboys, they wound up taking DeVonta Smith who is a great prospect. Smith gives them a legit No. 1 receiver but that won’t matter if Jalen Hurts is unable to get the job done.

Apparently, the Eagles believe Hurts is the guy and want him to succeed but that doesn’t mean they should have passed on a talent such as Fields who comes in with a much higher ceiling than Hurts.
