Seattle Seahawks: Re-signing Chris Carson
It was already discussed why it’s never a good idea to give running backs another contract after they play out their rookie deals. It simply hardly works out and the times where a back lives up to the contract are seen as the anomaly, which is enough reason to take the chances that moving on will be a problem than vice versa.
Having said that, the Seattle Seahawks made sure when they re-signed Chris Carson that they didn’t break the bank. He agreed to a two-year deal worth just over $10 million and as long as he stays healthy, he will be well worth the investment.
The problem is, he’s already struggling with the durability part. In four seasons, Carson has yet to play a full season and missed four games in 2020 due to a foot injury. When he was on the field, they also limited his touches as he had just 141 carries for 681 yards.
Still, bringing back a ball carrier who already has injury concerns might be an issue. Not only could he end up getting hurt again but his presence kept them from picking up another player who would be able to carry the load.
Then again, since they only had three picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, they might have felt they had no choice. So maybe losing all their picks in trades should be the main complaint.
