Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Keeping Leonard Fournette
What a season it was for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After landing Tom Brady in free agency, they found themselves ending their postseason drought as they made it to the playoffs for the first time since 2007.
Then they won three road games which allowed them to play at home in the Super Bowl which was history in itself. Tampa Bay wasn’t happy just playing the title game in their stadium either and they ended up winning in convincing fashion over the Kansas City Chiefs.
After the game, they did the unthinkable as they kept all 22 of their starters which is something many Super Bowl winners struggle to do. Wide receiver Chris Godwin, tight end Rob Gronkowski, edge rusher Shaq Barrett, and defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh were a few of the free agents they were able to retain as they were all focused on winning once again in 2021.
Another player they retained was running back Leonard Fournette. A former first-round pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Fournette was up and down for Tampa Bay last season. He started to improve in the playoffs but his biggest issue was his inconsistency and his drops as a receiver (including some untimely ones in the playoffs). For the Bucs, it might have been better to try and bring in someone else for this role.
