30 NFL players fans loved to loathe
NFL History: 30 players fans loved to loathe: 20. Tim Tebow
This one gets a bit tricky.
Tim Tebow and his jolly gee-whiz attitude are hard to root against. He plays with his emotion on his sleeves and proudly displays his religion and faith. None of that has ever been an issue for football fans but his inability to play quarterback at a high level, paired with his consistent opportunities is something else entirely.
Tebow was a failure in the NFL, there’s simply no way around it. But, no matter how many times he chucked the ball into the dirt, fans always clamored to see him enter the game. Tebow’s hate train doesn’t stretch as far as other notable names on this list in the NFL world but when it comes to overall hate, Tebow has just about everyone beat.
After dropping his helmet and picking up an ESPN microphone, Tebow was given an opportunity to play for the New York Mets farm system. During his high school days, Tebow was terrific. His batting average was a ridiculous .494 and his teams were always in contention to win it all but seeing how he hadn’t played for years, there were plenty of fans around the world who were pissed that he got the opportunity to become a minor leaguer.
Still, even after he flamed out, it appeared as though Tebow’s athletic career was officially over. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, his former Florida head coach, Urban Meyer, landed a job with the Jacksonville Jaguars. One of the first phone calls he made was to Tim Tebow but not to play quarterback. Meyer decided to give Tebow a shot at tight end. Needless to say, fans grew even more annoyed with Tebow. Just how is no in the world does someone who continues to fail in the sports world continue to get opportunity after opportunity? That’s a conversation for another day.
