NFL History: 30 players fans loved to loathe: 19. Randy Moss

It’s difficult to find a single fan base that loved Randy Moss and that’s why he’s a perfect fit in this spot.

Moss had all of the talent in the world. He was fast, strong, physical, and had seemingly the best hands in the league for over a decade. For as great as Jerry Rice was, Moss was considered to be just as good during his prime.

Like any great player, Moss pissed off opposing fans due to how great he was. Even when it seemed like Moss was being contained, in actuality, he wasn’t. On Thanksgiving day in 1998 while a member of the Minnesota Vikings, Moss caught only three passes. But while Dallas Cowboys fans believed they finally contained him, when they looked at the rest of the box score, they almost pulled their hair out. Moss registered 163 receiving yards and all three of his catches resulted in touchdowns.

Where the hate for Moss truly began was in his work ethic. Fans of the Vikings and at the time, Oakland Raiders, were incensed with Moss for what appeared to be an attitude geared toward quitting. He seemingly didn’t try in those pit stops but went on to become an all-world player with the New England Patriots. Outside of that fanbase, Moss burned a ton of bridges for not only destroying teams with his great play but also for quitting when the going got tough.
