NFL History: 30 players fans loved to loathe: 18. Chuck Cecil

A scud missile is something that is often used during a time of war. When deployed, it destroys just about everything even remotely close. That description is apropos when it comes to describing former defensive back Chuck Cecil of the Green Bay Packers.

Nicknamed “scud” Cecil didn’t care about the rules or the safety of anyone he was tackling. He would routinely land a helmet-to-helmet hit which would take his opponents out for the rest of the game. Outside of Green Bay, fans hated seeing Cecil on the field. Although the NFL was a much more physical game when he played in the mid-1990s, Cecil was a borderline dirty player.

At times, Cecil appeared able to stop a particular play by nudging an offensive player out of bounds or by simply wrapping them up. Instead, he had more fun running full speed and placing his head down as to use the crown of his helmet as a weapon. If opponents managed to make it back to their feet, there was a good chance Cecil would land several more shots before the end of the game.
