NFL History: 30 players fans loved to loathe: 17. Johnny Manziel

For the most part, Johnny Manziel’s hate truly stems from his time in college. For two years at Texas A&M, Manziel played the villain beautifully. His college squads were underdogs in just about every stadium they went into but yet Manziel took care of business while taunting them.

When he was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in 2014, Manziel texted front office personnel on the Browns and told them he wanted to “wreck the league.” That of course, didn’t happen as Manziel was pretty awful.

Still, NFL fans treated Manziel like he was that same college kid who could do wonders on the field. The league proved to be too physical and too demanding of a place for Manziel as he fizzled out fairly quickly. Regardless of his minuscule amount of success. Fans let him have it, even when he was sitting on the bench, when his face was shown on the Jumbotron, the boos rained down upon him.
