The Denver Broncos already traded for Teddy Bridgewater but have been connected to both Aaron Rodgers and Deshaun Watson this offseason as well. Are either still a possibility?

There’s no secret that the quarterback situation with the Denver Broncos is one that requires a high level of attention given the current circumstances. However, this offseason has been filled with rumors of potential trade targets for the Mile High City. One is Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the other is Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

The former is the reigning league MVP and guided Green Bay to the NFC Championship, only to cede victory to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The latter, while certainly among the league’s young rising stars, was part of a Houston team that struggled mightily. Additionally, this offseason has not been Watson’s best time due to multiple sexual assault allegations.

However, Watson has stated that he would love to be traded to the Broncos. The same was said for Rodgers. On the positive side, both quarterbacks would be perfect fits in Denver. They would bring stability to a position that Denver has not any consistency from since Peyton Manning rode off into the sunset.

Is either quarterback a legitimate option for the Denver Broncos?

In terms of résumé and experience, the better choice would be Rodgers for the Broncos. Furthermore, giving Rodgers a bevy of weapons would certainly help in his final years in the NFL. Also, legendary quarterbacks tend to play well in Denver, i.e., Peyton Manning and John Elway.

On the field, though, if Denver looking for youth and upside and long-term success, then pursuing Watson and surrounding him with the best arsenal that could be assembled would make success for the franchise.

However, the circumstances for both players create issues for Denver. Recently, a former GM called Rodgers “selfish” and that stigma could scare teams away.

Additionally, stemming from a league investigation and ongoing litigation, it is likely Watson will be suspended; that would hinder the Broncos season. Given how difficult the AFC West is with the Chargers and Chiefs, a slow start can’t happen.

The Denver Broncos should be feeling very proud that they are in the news for a star quarterback potentially joining their franchise. But they must also be wary that this could be a buzzy move and nothing more. There are risks present with both Rodgers and Watson, though those risks are much different in nature.
