Dallas Cowboys: 5 Players turning heads this offseason
3. Neville Gallimore, DL
Leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft, there was some buzz that Neville Gallimore could be a top-50 pick. However, some of his limitations and concerns about his role in the NFL allowed him to fall to the third round when the Cowboys were able to pull the trigger on the Oklahoma defensive tackle. And most agreed that Dallas got tremendous value with that pick.
As a rookie, however, Gallimore had an uneven season, albeit not necessarily an unexpected trajectory for a rookie. He struggled to find consistent success on the interior defensive line early in the season but, as injuries wreaked havoc on the front seven and Gallimore was thrust into a bigger role, he stepped up tot he challenge, raising hopes for his progression.
From his offseason work, he’s on track to meet those rising expectations. Hek’ma Harrison of DallasCowboys.com listed Gallimore as one of nine players who helped themselves at minicamp, highlighting the second-year player’s notable improvement in conditioning and the subsequent uptick in his hand fighting and explosiveness on the interior.
Dallas has long lacked consistency on the interior of the defensive line and, while they stacked some solid veteran depth there in free agency, Gallimore taking a step forward would be the biggest help. If he can maintain this level of conditioning, there’s reason to believe he can deliver in that role.
