While there was no argument that the Dallas Cowboys needed to address their woefully undermanned secondary in the draft, there was quite the outcry regarding how the organization went about doing so. Part of that was taking a relatively raw player in the second round in Kelvin Joseph but it even more so stemmed from a perceived massive reach on Nahshon Wright in the third round.

Most analysts didn’t have Wright going until late on Day 3 of the draft but the Cowboys selected him at No. 99 overall. That may have not been the best value for the player. However, based on the offseason so far, Dan Quinn and the franchise saw something they needed in Wright.

Wright is a bit slight of frame at 6-4, 185 pounds but his explosiveness and length have already proven to be an ideal fit for Quinn’s defense and what he likes to see from his corners. He got the opportunity to take high-end reps when Joseph was sidelined due to injury and, by all accounts, he consistently made big plays.

Joseph was the higher-drafted player but both he and Wright have immense upside. And if Wright continues to impress once training camp begins, we could see him actually crack the defensive back rotation as a rookie in this new defensive scheme.
