With the NFL season months away, which EURO 2020 Team should you support? We break down the squads and compare them so you don’t have to.

The NFL preseason is just around the corner, but fans still have a long time to wait before seeing their favourite teams in action again. Without any games to watch, fans may be interested in turning on the other kind of football.

EURO 2020, the major European national soccer tournament, is underway, and the tournament has reached the knockout phases. Without Team USA to support, who should American viewers get behind?

We take a look at the nations and make it easy for you in this first of our four-part series: If NFL franchises were EURO 2020 teams.

4. Denmark – NFL Franchise Comparison: Washington Football Team

Next game: vs. Wales, Saturday, June 26

There has been no team at EURO 2020 that has had a more emotional journey so far than Denmark. In their opening fixture, star player Christian Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch and the scenes were broadcast around the world. He was thankfully saved by the medical staff, and his teammates have since played with their efforts dedicated to their teammate.

They have had mixed results since the incident, including a loss in their first game against Sweden after it was postponed by a few hours. However, they have gotten to the next round and will fancy their chances against Wales on Saturday, June 26.

Denmark have a number of top players, such as goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel and Dortmund’s Thomas Delaney. They play a high-tempo passing game and if the team can make up for a lack of cutting edge strikers with some luck, they can do well.

Washington Football Team fans will commiserate with Danish people and will find a perfect team to support in Denmark. Washington fans have had head coach Ron Rivera struggling with cancer hanging over their team, not to mention losing Alex Smith to that devastating injury.

The team is solid defensively if uninspiring in attack, but they proved this year with getting to the playoffs that with the right luck the team can do very well. Here’s hoping Washington fans get behind Denmark and root for a team that reflects theirs so well.
