2. Portugal – NFL Franchise Comparison: Green Bay Packers
Next game: vs. Belgium, Sunday, June 27
Portugal are the current holders of the tournament, winning the last competition (EURO 2016) and, in doing so, securing their first-ever international title. Led by international superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, they are a lethal offensive force. Ronaldo is the all-time leading international goal scorer. He is a totemic symbol for fans of the sport and, whenever he plays, Portugal feel like they can win.
Besides having one of the best footballers to ever play the sport, Portugal are stacked with offensive talent. Multiple players are the most important offensive players for their club teams, such as Bernardo Silva and Bruno Fernandes. They are lethal both in possession and on the counter-attack. Their passing is crisp, they play with unbelievable speed and pace, and not many teams can live with their attacking talent.
Defensively is where they can be found out, with center back the slowest and weakest point of their team. If you watch Portugal play, their offensive weapons and lack of defense usually lead to entertainment.
With Portugal so dependent on their offense, fans of the Green Bay Packers will emotionally connect with Seleção das Quinas. Aaron Rodgers is the heartbeat of Green Bay’s roster and he dictates exactly how well the team will do. The Packers have tons of offensive potency thanks to their leader and, if he does not play, the team is instantly less inspiring.
Their defensive pack are not renowned as amongst the best in the NFL and the Packers tend to get involved in entertaining shootouts. Wisconsin fans will envy Portugal’s warm weather year-round, but the heat their teams put on their opponents will definitely warm them as they watch Portugal play.
