Tom Brady’s appearance on The Shop was hilarious, revelatory
Tom Brady made a guest appearance on the HBO series The Shop, and he provided not only laughs but what really goes on in his mind.
Ever since Tom Brady left the New England Patriots, his persona has completely shifted. He’s opened up more and become an NFL entertainer, especially after winning his seventh Super Bowl. So it’s no real surprise that when he appeared on HBO’s The Shop, he expressed his thoughts and did so while garnering laughs.
In a teaser for his appearance, Brady went through his time as a free agent and how other teams were pursuing him but pulled out in the end before he went to Tampa Bay. Brady even went as far as to call out an unknown team for opting to stick with their quarterback instead of pursuing him.
If that wasn’t enough to have people howling with laughter and starting speculation, the episode actually airing certainly did. Brady did what he normally does: start calm and quiet and then go into a normal conversation mode.
However, he provided an insight on how he views the opposition, specifically an unnamed opposing defensive back.
That not only got a laugh out of everyone on set, including Golden State Warriors superstar Draymond Green but, in retrospect, Brady is actually right. There are things that athletes tend to believe within themselves, but they don’t speak publicly. Additionally, we get insight into Brady’s mentality that we haven’t seen throughout his career.
Tom Brady roasting the opposition and speaking his mind is exactly what we have longed to see for his entire career.
Granted, Brady is not Green — or even NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley — when it comes to speaking his mind. Still, in his new element, he feels comfortable; and that’s what we’ve wanted to see from the man that was a matter of fact and straight to the point and no outside emotion for the past 20+ years.
Maybe that defensive back was former Lions defensive back Alphonso Smith, who, in a Thanksgiving matchup in 2010, decided to wag his finger and taunt Brady, only to watch it blow up in his face. Or it could have been former Steeler Anthony Smith, who guaranteed a victory against the Patriots in 2007 only to watch Brady and his former teammates Randy Moss and Jabar Gaffney beat him on a flea-flicker en route to a victory.
Tom Brady is showing a new side of himself, and it’s actually quite refreshing unless, of course, you happen to be the one that he is roasting. Who that specific person or persons is, however, is one that we will never know.
