Dallas Cowboys: Trevon Diggs, Cornerback

The Dallas Cowboys needed to draft a defensive player in the 2020 NFL Draft and there was no way they were going to go in a different direction with their first-round pick. Well, at least it seemed that way until they were on the clock at No. 17 and CeeDee Lamb was there.

Dallas took the Oklahoma wideout which gave them three potential stars at the position — but it also left them thin on the other side of the ball. That proved to be their downfall as their defense was an absolute mess. They were still losing games even before Dak Prescott was hurt and that wasn’t changing.

This doesn’t mean they didn’t add some potential game-changers in the draft because they did. The Cowboys picked up Alabama cornerback Trevon Diggs in the second round and he showed positive development throughout the season. He was thrown into the fire too early but in the end, that could help him become a star as early as this year.

Diggs, who never saw his confidence shaken at all during his early growing pains, finished with 58 tackles and had three picks as well as 14 pass defenses. He now enters 2021 ready to be the No. 1 cornerback with Kelvin Joseph serving as this season’s rookie to groom.

The younger brother of star receiver Stefon Diggs, Trevon knows what it takes to succeed in the NFL and this could be his breakout campaign for Big D.
