Derek Carr ready to recruit Davante Adams to join Raiders
Derek Carr and Davante Adams helped put one another on the NFL radar in college but the quarterback would like to reforge that connection with the Raiders.
In the NFL, both Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr and Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams have enjoyed plenty of success. While Adams is certainly the more heralded player, Carr has developed into an upper-half quarterback in the league as the offense has been anything but the problem with the silver and black.
Before their NFL success, however, the two were college teammates at Fresno State and are a big reason why either player came into the league with a reasonable pedigree (even if they’ve since exceeded that). Teamed up with the Bulldogs, Carr and Adams combined for over 3,000 yards passing and 38 touchdowns.
But while Carr’s future under the Jon Gruden regime has been brought into question many times over the years, it’s now Adams who may have somewhat of an uncertain future in Green Bay. The wide receiver is entering the final year of his current contract. And with the Aaron Rodgers saga continuing with the Packers, that could lead Adams to question his options.
Regardless of the situation in Green Bay, however, Carr is well aware that his friend and former Fresno State teammate is about to possibly be available in free agency. In fact, the quarterback said he was ready to put on a “full-court press” to try and get Adams to the Raiders and that he “will be recruiting very hard” to make that happen, per Bri Mellon of ABC30 (h/t CBS Sports).
Davante Adams joining Derek Carr on the Raiders isn’t that outlandish.
Sometimes when you hear about the idea of former college teammates reuniting, the situation just doesn’t make all that much sense. For Derek Carr and Davante Adams, on the other hand, it’s not a stretch to see how that could end up happening.
As mentioned, though Adams has expressed a desire to stay in Green Bay, if Rodgers and the Packers aren’t able to reconcile, that would make leaving a real possibility for the wide receiver. And in that case, playing in a big market like Las Vegas for a team that could use a superstar pass-catcher to team up with his former college quarterback and friend would make sense.
There is obviously a lot that would need to happen for Adams to end up with the Raiders. The stars would need to align for him to want to leave Green Bay and then Las Vegas and Carr would have to put together the best pitch to lure him into the fold. But we know the quarterback will push to make it happen and, frankly, he has a strong case to make.
