Ryan Ramczyk is one of the better right tackles in the NFL and now has a hefty payday to show for it after signing an extension with the New Orleans Saints.

When the New Orleans Saints took right tackle Ryan Ramczyk in the 2017 NFL Draft, they believed he would be a building block for the future. On Wednesday, their belief came to fruition after the former Wisconsin Badger signed a five-year, $90 million contract extension with Sean Payton’s club, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The deal now makes Ramczyk the highest-paid right tackle in the NFL, and it’s a well-deserved deal given how well he has played in his career. Additionally, it gives a lot of credence to the 2017 NFL Draft for the Saints as a whole, as they struck gold with several players.

That class includes defensive backs Marshon Lattimore and Marcus Williams, running back Alvin Kamara and defensive end Trey Hendrickson, who is now in Cincinnati. Overall, a very productive class for New Orleans — yet there’s no champ[ionship, which is a bummer. Meanwhile, for Ramczyk, he now gets to take the field with a fresh deal in hand.

Ryan Ramczyk got a nice extension; however, he bears new responsibility by protecting a new quarterback.

With Drew Brees now out of the lineup in New Orleans, the question is who Ryan Ramczyk’s new quarterback will be? Is it going to be Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill? Truth be told, it doesn’t matter as the Saints now have to find a way to navigate the NFC South with Carolina, Atlanta, and yes, of course, those champions in Tampa Bay, who beat New Orleans in the divisional round last year.

However, if anything was learned, controlling the line of scrimmage will be critical to success. The Saints dominated against the Buccaneers in their two regular-season matchups and struggled in the playoffs. Locking up your best player on the line, however, is a sign that you are willing to stick to the roots of success regardless of the era.

Ryan Ramczyk is back in the Big Easy and has a new deal to show for it. Now, it’s up to him to go out and show that the investment was for the better and, of course, give his new quarterback a chance to shine.
