Stephon Gilmore didn’t report to minicamp for the Patriots and, while a new deal could be worked out, which NFL teams should be calling about a trade?

Since the Buffalo Bills made Stephon Gilmore the No. 10 overall pick in the 2012 draft, the cornerback has been a strong NFL player. But over his last five seasons — one with Buffalo and the last four with the New England Patriots — his game has reached another level. Over that span, Gilmore has made four Pro Bowls, two First-Team All-Pros and won 2019 Defensive Player of the Year.

After his level of play, though, Gilmore is unhappy with his current contract and would like a new deal with the Patriots. And without the presence of one, the soon-to-be 31-year-old didn’t report to mandatory minicamp. Naturally, that has sparked trade rumors about the cornerback as it does, even if only marginally, increase the chance that he could be dealt.

Until training camp, it’s hard to know exactly what the Patriots are planning to do. But if they are willing to trade their star veteran cornerback, then there should be no shortage of teams making the call. Specifically, though, these five teams would make a ton of sense for where Stephon Gilmore could land.

Jalen Ramsey is already trying to work on a Stephon Gilmore trade to LA

5. Los Angeles Rams – Some people are probably saying that the Rams wouldn’t be on here if Jalen Ramsey hadn’t taken to Twitter to try and recruit Gilmore. And there is some truth to that. That certainly brought the possibility of Gilmore heading to LA into the forefront. However, it’s also a team that needs to get Ramsey some help in the secondary.

With bold trades this offseason while losing Troy Hill and John Johnson III in free agency, the Rams secondary has gotten quite thin. Ramsey is a star and Darious Williams played well last year but no one else on the roster is proven. If there was a chance they could land Gilmore, it would be another blockbuster that the Rams would have to explore.
