The Dallas Cowboys look to rebound from a terrible 6-10 season. Having these five players break out would help them as they look to improve in 2021.
2020 was a season to forget for the Dallas Cowboys who finished 6-10 in their first season under Mike McCarthy. With another year working with the team — and a return to health for quarterback Dak Prescott — hopes are again high in Big D ahead of the 2021 season.
Having said that, they can’t just count on Prescott’s repaired ankle to carry them back to relevance because they weren’t winning when he was there in 2020. Instead, they’re going to need to see some other players step up and help as well.
There are, of course, going to be the usual suspects but here are five potential break-out stars who could help the Cowboys succeed in 2021.
5. Trevon Diggs, Cornerback
Last season, the Cowboys defense was an absolute mess — especially in the secondary. Rookie cornerback Trevon Diggs was thrown to the wolves early since there really were no other options and the second-round pick had his share of struggles early on.
However, he started to improve as the season went on and even pulled in three interceptions. Now heading into 2021, he looks poised for the No. 1 cornerback job with Chidobe Awuzie now in Cincinnati.
This doesn’t mean he’s guaranteed to have a great season but the growth he showed at the end of 2020 was encouraging. He should be able to build upon that and there’s a chance that he could be one of the few stars on defense for the Cowboys.
