30 best NFL players to win a Super Bowl with 2 or more teams: 20. Elvis Patterson

Stats:

  • 12 interceptions

In no way, shape or form was Elvis Patterson a great player but for a short stretch, he was very good. His 1985 season with the New York Giants should be considered one of the better seasons for a player who didn’t make a Pro Bowl roster. On the year, Patterson was amongst the league leaders in interceptions with six.

The Giants finished that season with a 10-6 record. Although they were annihilated by the Chicago Bears in the Divisional Round, losing 21-0, every team that season essentially got their doors blown off by that historically great team.

In a more diminished role the following year, the Giants went 14-2 and won the Super Bowl. Patterson would add another shiny ring to his resume during the back half of his career as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. He didn’t start a single game in the 1993 regular season or playoffs and failed to produce any statistics whatsoever.

Despite riding the bench to a title, Patterson ended his career with two Super Bowl rings. It just seems strange that the more he played, the worse his teams got. When his playing time diminished, his teams took off and became one of the best in the league, showing that his true value came from his ability to cheer teammates on from the bench.
