Even after waiting for 262 other names to be called, once Mark Schlereth was drafted, he made the most of opportunities. The injury bug hit him early and often during his career but he was a Pro Bowler in his first healthy season in the league in 1993 and was a Super Bowl champ the following year with the Washington Football Team.

The titles kept rolling in as he ended his career with the Denver Broncos. John Elway could always depend on his blind side being covered. Once the team dismantled, Schlereth hung up his cleats as well.

Schlereth never had a chance to become a multiple time All-Pro or a Hall of Fame level player. Simply put, the injuries were too much to deal with. In total, he dealt with 29 surgeries, 15 of which came on his left knee alone.

When Schlereth was healthy and able, he protected every single of his quarterbacks without any issues. Could he have become an all-time great? That’s a question that’ll never be answered due to his ridiculously long injury history.
